Meridian Mary
03:06
|
|||
let’s get disconnected tonight
resurrected tonight
hide the reds
and share the blues
crush the city
till she’s lost with you
there’s somebody waiting somewhere
there’s somebody waiting somewhere
for me,
meridian mary
and though she doesn’t know the way
she prays all night and day,
i kiss her slow
and though she’s lost somewhere tonight
i swear i hold her tight,
she never knows
let’s get disconnected tonight
misdirected tonight
drink the stars
and smash the moon
choke the night
till she turns blue
there’s something broken somewhere
there’s something broken somewhere
in me,
meridian mary
and though she doesn’t know the way
she prays all night and day,
i kiss her slow
and though she’s lost out there tonight
and i swear i hold her tight,
i let her go
i turn the radio up
it’s a quarter to three
and there in all the static
she dances for me
this is shaping up to be
some kind of wounded history
lock the door and break the key

i just wanna lose myself in you
and maybe fade away
i just wanna wrap my head in glue
and baby make some space
i just wanna die with something new
and maybe cry out loud
i just wanna dream a dream of you
and melt your mouth for a while
CHORUS:
we are all scared
but not sure what of
please don’t laugh at me
when i say
i just wanna fall in
i just wanna fall in love
i just wanna crack the sky right through
and maybe leave some time
i just wanna pay the debt that’s due
and breathe you undefined
CHORUS
i just wanna forget i ever knew
and close my eyes all night
i just wanna drown myself in you
and know that it’s all alright
CHORUS

Laura Plays The Violin
04:08
|
|||
take the moon off your side
take the stars out your eyes
hold it together
if you can
cause i will never
see you again
she said i love you
but i will not
let you in
cause i know back home
for you
laura plays
the violin
take out the mouth
take out the pride
but hold it together
if you can
cause i will never
see you again
she said i love you
but i will not
let you in
cause i know back home
for you
laura plays
the violin
be pure if you must
and smile if you dare
but hold it together
if you can
cause i will never
see you again
she said i love you
but i will not
let you in
cause i know back home
for you
laura plays
the violin

Luna Park (After Sunset)
03:57
|
|||
in a strange way,
she was thoughtless
she kissed with only her eyes
and in the fading
flames of twilight
she dreamed at all the wrong times
at the boardwalk
she sang a strange song
melodies of boys she use to know
and the words from some old movie
she’d never seen
but always would know
CHORUS:
she went ooooooooh ooooh
ooooooooh oooooooh
ooooooh oooooh
ooooh oooo
in a strange way,
she was flawless
she danced with only her tongue
and in the fading
flames of twilight
she killed her ghosts and she killed them young
in the summer
at the north pier
she hummed a broken tune
full of wonder in the night sky
and the hollowness of the moon
CHORUS
in a strange way,
she was heartless
she talked with only the past
and in the last chance
that is twilight
she grew questions that no one could ask
on the boardwalk,
after sunset
it came down to her and me
and the strange songs
we all live with
and the ghosts of all those movies
CHORUS

The Two Ton Summer
05:20
|
|||
they were skinny dippin with poets
and always heading west
he slept with the american flag
she always wore a dress
they were screaming down the highways
dreaming like they never dreamed before
there was mescaline and magazines
and a suitcase by the door
CHORUS:
it was a two ton summer
some nights you never get over
i’ll drop you off where you want
but take you where you need
she said “this country’s all we’ve got,
but it’s just some kinda dream.”
they were holdin onto the landscape
as the landscape disappeared
and they fought about the traffic
but the roads were always clear
some nights they slept in motels
other nights they drove straight through
she said “i’m in love with america,
cuz i’m in love with everything new.”
CHORUS
they were hookin up with the future
but only one night stands
and yeah they had a map
but they never had a plan
she kissed when she whispered
and whispered when she kissed
he was born some kinda romantic
and she just went along with it
CHORUS
She said "This place is never what is seems,
that's why i've only got two dreams:
the one's that we get married in Vegas
the other one's that Jesus might save us."

The Last One
02:56
|
|||
this is how the last party started
moonlit drunk and still broken hearted
sometimes the nights just aint what they seem
she laughed and said “this is just how we dream.”
and i knew you
you’d been there before yeah
spent all night outside the door and
the records spun blue, stronger than the last time
still all the drama had me on a rewind
CHORUS:
this is how you live it
this is who you are
despite the difference
in our stars
or what you’ve done
i just hope it’s better
than the last one
this is how the first song started
summer drunk and still young at heart and
we drove the back roads longer than we needed
who was blind and who just couldn’t see it?
CHORUS
this is how the whole thing started
how the nights got so damn haunted
life never turns out just how you plan it
we both knew it and both couldn’t stand it
stronger now but i swear we had to fake it
this life of shadows is just what you make it
i bury you in dreams and say a quick prayer
somewhere that song still plays,
but I just leave it there
CHORUS
